My soon to be new uniform...

Ok....ok...ok...I know, Go Navy...Beat Army (it even says so on the shirt behind me). Well, don't get excited my Army friends...blue to green is not an option. I am going to just borrow the Army Combat Uniform (ACU) on the right for a bit. In my effort to fulfill a photo promise to my daughters, I thought this would be an interesting way to show them the type of uniforms/gear I will be issued. The Army did this uniform right...light weight, zippers not buttons and lots of Velcro - it's sweet! I should be able to post a pic of me in it on Thursday or Friday.

Lunch with family at The Field Irish Pub

I had the pleasure of having lunch today with my Uncle Bob and Aunt Mary. They are some great people I wish I could spend more time with. I have tons of great memories growing up with them in my life. So, it was a great opportunity to catch up on life. They are still full of life and energy and a pleasure to be with.

Man...goodbyes are tough...

Well, this is my 1st post of the deployment. Personally, I think the most difficult time of any deployment is the initial goodbye. It's a transition time where we get into our routines that get us through the tough times. It is not to say that being apart is ever easy, but it gets easier as we settle into our routines. The one thing I want to highlight is how much I appreciate what my family does...NCC brought to light today a small nuance that typically is overlooked...thanking the families that keep the home fires burning. It is a concept that only military families can understand...it's tough, and we all sacrifice and serve our country. This is the first day of a long deployment...I can't wait for the routine to set in. In the mean time, I will rest easy knowing this life is a choice we made together -- as a family. A higher calling for the greater good of our children. I would love nothing more than to have Katy and Addy follow in my footsteps...but I would prefer it to happen in a peaceful world. I hope I can be a small part of ensuring they experience a life without war.
